Recruiting for a Research Study: Theatre Workshop for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Shannon Richardson, an Enchantment Theatre Company artist and teaching artist, is also a graduate student at La Salle University in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. She is conducting a study in conjunction with Enchantment Theatre Company and Great Expectations Together in Narberth, PA. This study provides eight (8) free theatre classes and three (3) group activity sessions, including one (1) complete performance for children between the ages of 9 and 12 years who have a previous diagnosis of high functioning autism spectrum disorder. The class will also include children without a diagnosis of autism. Children will have the opportunity to work with a professionally trained actor and learn about the use of masks and puppets to create a short production for family and friends. Participants in the study will receive up to five (5) ticket vouchers per family for an upcoming Enchantment Theatre Company production in the Philadelphia Region. This study is looking into changes in social interaction skills as a result of the theatre experience.
Please contact the primary researcher, Shannon Richardson, by email at fitzsimonss1@student.lasalle.edu for more information.
