Set in Louisiana with the flavor of an American folk tale, our story transports audiences to a magical world of herons, turtles, alligators and a mysterious Beast. In a little town at the edge of the bayou live a loving father and his two daughters, Grace Elizabeth and Beauty Jane. Beauty loves to explore the swamps and forest but after she has an accident there, she refuses to return. When her father’s livelihood is threatened by the wealthiest man in town, he travels into the forest and accidentally encounters the Beast. To save her father Beauty returns to the bayou and discovers the truth about the Beast. Realizing her true purpose, she bravely protects the creatures that call the bayou home as she stands up to those who want to destroy it.
The story of Mommy’s Khimar is a simple one. A young Muslim girl takes one of her mother’s headscarves or khimars, and with the power of her imagination, uses the Khimar to dream about what she may become. Her sense of wonder and her belief that ‘anything is possible’ are the driving forces in the narrative, and building on her playful inventiveness, we will expand the story into a journey of self-discovery and self-actualization – elements that are quintessential to any Enchantment production. Using the art of movement and dance, music, masks and puppets, we will create the world of Mommy’s Khimar and immerse our audiences in the imagination of our main character.

“One evening, after thinking it over for some time, Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight.” So begins Harold and the Purple Crayon, the first of seven delightful picture books by Crockett Johnson, following the zany adventures of an inventive young boy. As it turned out, there wasn’t any moon that night nor was there a path to walk on, so Harold simply drew them. And thus his journey began. Resourceful and brave, Harold creates the world he wants to explore, using nothing more than a big purple crayon and his sky’s-the-limit imagination.
Enchantment Theatre Company’s production will take you on a wild ride as Harold jets to Mars (shooting stars, spaceships!), joins a circus (he walks a tightrope!), and meets a king in an enchanted garden (of course, there’s a dragon). The “Harold” books have captivated families for more than fifty years, celebrating the imagination of children and the unique way they see the world. That’s why Enchantment, one of America’s most innovative producers of original theater works for children and families, has adapted these wonderful stories for the stage. Using all the elements of its signature style, which combines life-size puppets, masks, magic and music, Enchantment’s production will delight and amaze you, from children starting at Harold’s age to grandparents – anyone, in fact, whose heart is young and adventurous.
