The productions that Enchantment offers can be separated into three distinct categories:
- National Tours – Hour long productions that tour across the country and internationally.
- Symphonic Productions – 40 minute productions performed as a pantomime in tandem with a full symphony orchestra. These travel to symphonies across the country and internationally.
- Enchantment Everywhere – 35 minute productions, created specifically to tour locally to schools and community venues, bringing the same high quality production value that Enchantment delivers across the country to auditoriums, gymnasiums, libraries and theatre spaces around Philadelphia.
All of these types of productions carry the same four characteristics: Originality, Imagination, Transformation and Community.
Everything Enchantment Theatre produces for the stage is original material
We do not use existing scripts that have been performed elsewhere. Each show is completely created by Enchantment, based on a fairy tale, fable, or other classic story for children. The music is written specifically to support the show, and masks, puppets, costumes, and sets are built for our exclusive use.
Maybe it goes without saying that a theatre company is creative by definition
We believe Enchantment takes that one giant step further by operating based the value of imagination. Producing high quality children’s theatre takes extraordinary imagination to best combine an array of arts, including mime, mask work, puppetry, and great storytelling. Enchantment does this by bringing together the old and new with the best of Eastern and Western theatrical techniques.
“I want my family to see the show. It would probably change their lives forever.”
A child attending a performance of our production of Cinderella once told us this, reminding us that while we’re in the business of entertainment, we go one step further. We want children to see what this young attendee saw – that characters onstage can work through problems and come to a transformed understanding of themselves and their circumstances.
This gives children hope, a sense of possibility, and the belief that their lives, too, can change for the better.
We strive to serve the Greater Philadelphia community
At Enchantment, we make every effort to reach out to the most underserved people in Philadelphia – the differently-abled, the elderly, those for whom English is a second language, and the economically challenged. We do this in partnership with community-based organizations that support these groups, like The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, one of our long-term In-School Residency partners.
